The Police Caught the Thief Who Stole My Bike Bag
I got a call from the police station this afternoon when I was at work: the thief, who stole from me a few months ago, was caught.
I was honestly amazed. They told me my missing bag might not be recovered and that they’d be prosecuting the thief next. I thought it’s just a minor issue for me and not really worth prosecuting, but the AGC (Attorney-General’s Chambers) has made its decision, so I’m wondering I’m probably just one of many victims in a bigger case.
I was impressed by the Singapore Police’s service level - they actually pay attention to minor issues.
It was about 2 months ago, I rode my daughter to kindergarten and then parked the bike in the parking area downstairs. The bike bag went missing when my daughter’s aunt went to pick her up. It was just a cheap one, worth maybe tens of dollars. My daughter’s tumbler was inside, along with a Dahon handlebar and a pair of socks that I had bought a few days earlier when I was in a playground with her.
I reported it to the police the next day to prevent further losses, since I have to park my bike there every day for a long time. Two police officers came over and retrieved CCTV footage from the building management. The video was pretty blurry, and I couldn’t even make out any faces. Anyway, the officers eventually confirmed that someone had stolen my bike bag, and then opened a case.
About a week later, I received the first call from police, they updated me on the case - no progress yet, and they would let me know once there was any news. A month after that, they called me the second time, and shared much the same update with me.
Then today, I got another call: they caught the thief!
今天下午正上着班呢接到警局打来的电话，说我两个月前的那个报案，小偷被抓到了。
确实有些震惊，电话那头接着说不过东西找不回来了，接下来将会进入起诉程序。我说案值也不大，起诉是不是就算了，那头表示很理解，但接着说这是总检查署的决定，猜测应该不止在我我儿这一次犯案。
不得不感叹新加坡警察的服务水平还是很高的，对于这种案值小线索也不多的琐碎小案子足够重视，作为一个新加坡纳税人我觉得是满意的。
大概是2个月之前，我早晨骑自行车送女儿去幼儿园，走前把车子锁在了幼儿园楼下的停车区。下午放学阿姨去接的时候，发现车座后面的一个小驮包不见了。包不贵，几十块钱，里面有一个我女儿平时使用的水壶，一副dahon车子原厂的把套，还有一双我前几天陪女儿在游乐场玩时买的袜子，当时随手就塞进了里面。
我第二天我报了警，主要是因为车子以后要经常停放在那里，至少感觉可以在心理上震慑一下顺手牵羊的人，避免东西以后越丢越多，哪天整个车子给我偷走了。当时来了两位警官，了解了情况然后去调取了大楼的监控视频，后来其中一位警官拿视频给我辨认的时候我看到的视频是极其模糊的，根本分辨不出来里面的人是谁，只能说是有一个人的轮廓而已。不管怎样，经过至少一个小时的分析，警官们最终认定我这个包的的确确是被人偷走了，随后立案。
立案之后的一周左右吧，警局给我打了第一次电话，说是案件还没有进展，后续有消息会通知我。一周的时间其实已经就对于这件事没什么情绪了，不过还是觉得警局的办事确实做到了有着落，让你知道这件事有人在关注。大概是一个月左右吧，我又接到了警局的第二次电话，电话内容还是没有进展，有消息会通知我。
再一次接到电话就是这次，小偷被抓到了。
